Prior to leading NextGen Healthcare, Rusty spent eight years in increasingly responsible roles at CareFusion Corp., a San Diego–based global medical technology corporation that provides products and services to help hospitals improve safety and care quality. Prior to Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) acquiring CareFusion, Rusty served as the senior vice president and general manager of the Global Dispensing division. The transformational medication management strategy he developed across three of the company’s global brands created $1 billion in global revenue and served as a key strategic driver in the acquisition of CareFusion by BD. Until heading the division, Rusty served as the vice president of Research and Development for the Pyxis™ business unit of CareFusion and as the general manager of Pyxis™ Perioperative Solutions, a leader in hospital and health system supply management solutions. Previously, Rusty was the chief technology officer and a cofounder of OutPurchase, a provider of cloud-based procurement solutions and services. He began his career as one of the first employees at Omnicell, a leading supplier of comprehensive automation and business analytics software for patient-centric medication and supply management across the healthcare continuum. Rusty holds a master of science in Engineering from Stanford University and a bachelor of science in Engineering from the Maine Maritime Academy. “By enabling innovation and invention at the front lines of wellness—in the community- based patient-physician interaction, I believe we can make healthcare better.”
